WELCOME

This recently restored 300 year old cottage  is on a working farm which includes Ossian's Grave ( The Giant ) where there is a memorial to John Hewitt who described it as his chosen ground.

Situated in Glenaan in the famed Nine Glens of Antrim two and a half miles from Cushendall 'The Capital of The Glens', the cottage is well placed to observe the birdlife while walking and viewing beautiful peaceful countryside: yet within reach of pubs, shops, restaurants as well as golf, boating and fishing.

This is a single court tomb situated on the top of a hill with extensive views.
Both arms of the 6m wide court exist and the gallery is well defined too. This is about 3.5m long and split into three sections, which are (from front to back) 1.5m, 1m and 1m long.
100m from the tomb is an exposed rocky outcrop, which could easily be the source of the stone used to build it.

John Harold Hewitt (b. 1907 d. June 1987 ) was a renowned poet who was born and lived in Belfast, Northern Ireland . He was appointed the first writer-in-residence at the Queen's University of Belfast in 1976. His collections include 'The Day of the Corncrake' (1969) and 'Out of My Time: Poems 1969 to 1974' (1974)'. He was also made a Freeman of the City of Belfast in 1983.
